Kim Dunker was introduced to triathlons in 2002; she began her quest in triathlons looking for a challenge. Kim began as a competitive swimmer at a young age. This is where she began to develop an understanding of what hard work, discipline, and intrinsic motivation can accomplish.
Kim transitioned out of swimming and smoothly adapted to the world of running. Dunker ran Cross Country and Track at the Div. 2 University of Tampa. While racing at Tampa, Kim competed in 3 National Championships.
Triathlons began as a form of summer cross training for Dunker, a way for her to stay in shape between collegiate seasons. Her love of the sport grew out of these summers.
In 2005, Kim began racing for the Timex Multisport team. In the past three years she grew as a triathlete, expanding her racing distance and level of competitiveness. Dunker has raced at 2 National Championships and 2 World Championships in ‘06 and ‘07. Her specialty is in Olympic distance and half IM distance.
Dunker graduated from the University of Tampa in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Sports Studies. Kim says, "I have had some awesome opportunities working in the Exercise Science field, I feel like each experience has given me the knowledge I can share with others today."
Kim has continued to grow and develop as a personal trainer, coach , and athlete. What she loves most is working with individuals to achieve their goals. Finally, Dunker says the best part of coaching is working with each specific person and helping them harness their unique talents.
Dunker believes that hard work breeds success. Hard work, discipline, intrinsic motivation, and dedication describe her both as an athlete and as a coach.
